One criterion for a pervasive system to be successful is to be simple and based on a well-known technology,
which easily could be extended for specific applications. The Jini software system seams to cover the
fundamental infrastructure between actors in such systems. Jini is an extension to the Java application
environment, thus the API is well known and widely accepted.
The goal is to outline the possibilities and limitations of the Jini technology as a basic architecture
for pervasive systems. It should also be determined to what extend the conceptual definitions from general
pervasive systems will fit with the concepts of Jini. To support the conceptual considerations for the
Jini system, a concrete implementation of a prototypical application as an example of a pervasive system
based on Jini will have a central role in the project.
